You have to love those alien bees haha. At least thats what it looked like in the setup. I greatly appreciate the setup photo. :D

I love this photo. His attitude is so awesome, and it does look like a mix of fashion and attitude. He's ready to do his thing. I love it. I love the white tie. I love the lighting. I think its awesome how the top two corner drop a little to emphasize him more. The stool is awesome too. You really captured a great moment here. The composition is spot on too. Keep at it!

great work!

I love this shot out of your series of him! The reflection of the soft box in his glasses is sweet and I love the shadows created by another light made by the stool and fabric. I get lost in his expression which makes me feel nothing really... I wish there was something more in that aspect of the shot that you have in the others, in my opinion. Composition is really nice and balanced and makes me intrigued about what he's doing, which I assume he is a Fashion major. The colors just add to the quirky mood and really unite the piece as a whole. :)

What is this dude doing, or more accurately what do you intend him to do?

I just get confused by looking at this man in elegant clothing making a tought face as he shift his weight because his bum is going numb from sitting on that stool trying to sew a rag for so long. This, I feel, is probably not the intended message.

So we are back at guessing what you are trying to make him do. Do you intend to get the elegant man to do a mudane thing? Because what I see is the man mocking the work his hands are doing, if they ever did any work at all.

I see a man in a pose ill fitting elegance, and sewing, and doing it with no more than half his body at that.
And so I wonder, what was your point?

Ah, thanks for the feedback.

I'm in an independent study/portfolio class this quarter and decided to focus on portraiture. I've been really interested in commercial/editorial portraits like those by Platon or Peter Yang, and so with this since I have no access to any celebrities or anyone like that, I decided to kind of.. 'invent' a celebrity. Trying to come up with images that make him seem like someone you should or would want to know. He's actually a fashion design major here at my school, so that's the theme with the scissors, cloth, thread and stool.
I was working to portray his character, which is somewhat ironic, at least when you think of the stereotypical fashion designer or 'gangster' type guy (which is what he is). I found it humorous when I first shot him a couple of weeks ago to hear him talking with some friends he brought along, and they were using all kinds of gangster slang and really just sounding and looking a lot like hiphop/rap personalities, if you get what I mean.
I was trying to show this juxtaposition here, and also practice my lighting technique.

Ah, then I would say that what cause me the most problems is that he is not following trough the gangster pose with his legs.

Gangster poses seem to be all about being though and in control, but here the pose is imbalanced as he is leaning out and thus some control is lost. Of course I'm not much an expert on gangster poses, and picture googling reveals noting much about the legwork involved in a good pose but I imagine they mostly ensure that the poser is well balanced and ready to respond to any violet action by the person/persons being at present subjected to the pose.
