Umm. This is a pretty cool place to shoot, but not an easy place to set up, and it's only available at night.
Strobist: B800 through white umbrella to camera-left and high over model, B1600 gridded (40° to camera-right and behind model. HDR for ambient light (1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 minutes!), comped in photoshop.
The light, the color, the angle, the location, the pose, the props, they all come together to create a wonderfully surrealistic picture. I also like the choice of clothing for the model. The rather mundane dress adds another touch of the bizarre to the situation.
You said you did multiple exposures, which I guess accounts for the multiple centers of focus, which also very effectively contributes to the surreal quality.
The way the foreground feels disconnected from the background, emphasized by the difference in light direction and color temp, reminds me of an old time movie studio sound stage, where the background would be a giant painted backdrop.
I don't know if you pre-visualized this from the start, or just went with the flow once you were on location. But the end result sure works. I'd love to see more images along this line.
Negatives? YOu'll get nothing from me on that score for this image

Amazing piece! I love the absurdness, the abstract environment and the beautifull lighting. But how on earth did you make the model stand so still? Is she even real? Keep it up Chris!
