Myanmar Cyclone, possibly over 100,000 dead

CNN:
U.S. envoy: Myanmar deaths may top 100,000
YANGON, Myanmar (CNN) -- The death toll from the cyclone that ravaged the Irrawaddy delta in Myanmar may exceed 100,000, the senior U.S. diplomat in the military-ruled country said Wednesday.

"The information we are receiving indicates over 100,000 deaths," the U.S. Charge D'Affaires in Yangon, Shari Villarosa, said on a conference call.

The U.S. figure is almost five times more than the 22,000 the Myanmar government has estimated.

The U.S. estimate is based on data from an international non-governmental organization, Villarosa said without naming the group. She called the situation in Myanmar "more and more horrendous."

"I think most of the damage was caused by these 12-foot storm surges," she said.

Villarosa also said about 95 percent of the buildings in the delta region were destroyed when Cyclone Nargis battered the area late Friday into Saturday.

Based on the same data, 70,000 people are missing in the Irrawaddy Delta, which has a population of nearly six million people, Villarosa said. The official Myanmar government figure for the missing is 41,000.

Villarosa said: "I can only assume that the longer the delay, the more victims that are created."

Little aid has reached the area since Nargis hit, and on Wednesday crowds of hungry survivors stormed reopened shops in the devastated Irrawaddy delta.

The United Nations urged the military junta to grant visas to international relief workers amid estimates of one million homeless.

A United Nations official said nearly 2,000 square miles (5,000 square km) of the hard-hit delta are still underwater.

Charity workers have gathered at Myanmar's embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, with vehicles, emergency food supplies and medicine, waiting for their visa requests to be approved.

"We need this to move much faster," said John Holmes, UN humanitarian chief, after reading a statement from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Yeah, I'm starting to like bikes. One of my roommates, Andy, is kicking ass all over the place and unlocking all kinds of shit. It's nuts. I had no idea there was so much to unlock.

You can earn Mirror Mode by beating all cups in 150cc, Andy did it today.
I have only beaten 4 cups on 150cc. :(

I love the squid car.

The only way to make the blue shells be less painful is to backtrack immediately so everyone close to me goes up in smoke. So in a way we'd be pretty even... well, not really. Because I'd be riding in everyone's draft and fucking shit up big time.

I know about dodging with shells and bananas. SOMETIMES the pow box doesn't work when I'm up in the air. Like, I'd say 95% of the time. Sometimes... it's just bad timing.

I'm so afraid of 150cc Rainbow Road... :( It's so depressing... to be number one, and then someone gets it into their head to fuck shit up and down I go in flames...

And I believe you unlock like super awesome vehicles and characters if you get one star in every single cup, every single race.

And you have to beat the Nintendo ghosts in the time trials to unlock mirror tracks, which I will do later.

yeah, I've not found a reliable way to dodge blue shells, but if you're in the air when the pow box goes off, it won't hurt you.
you can hold a shell or banana behind you to shield from other shells and people bumping you.

what happens if you get one star in each cup?

Actually I achieved one star in 4 of the 100cc cups, so far... only have 3 left. And then I can unlock more shit. Got to get one star in EVERY SINGLE race though... I mean, from 50cc up.

NOT EASY :iconprimouse:

I want to know if there are ways to deflect some items... the blue shell being one... as well as the pow box. I HATE. Both. SOMETIMES I can do it with a POWER MAGIC jump but it's not very reliable.

Dude I have one more cup to go for 100cc. I'M TEARING ASS.

By the way may I ask, what is your rank? Why is it I get first place every time and I'm still Rank B? What the hell :( Where's my three stars?

ASK KEITH. HE WROTE IT DOWN.

And omg I just found something magical with the bikes. Those sweet jumps man! I love.

I just beat all the 100cc cups, and moving on to the 150cc. I unlocked the Mii costume A which is a heavyweight version of your Mii. The voice is hilariously annoying!

Yes, right now, you hit it at 1, right when 1 is about to fade away.

I LOVE THE FUCKING BIKES MAN.

And I unlocked all but one of the new courses. So awesome. I love most of them. Only one I severely dislike is the Ghost Track. I LOVE DK Summit. I always use Toad and I sound just like him when I'm playing. I'm serious. Like, we say and yell almost the exact same things.

I was playing for 4 hours today. I would've gone on if Keith hadn't stopped me.

Getting the hang of the wheel too.

They changed it (on the DS version first) so you push the gas right when the 2 starts to fade away.

If you have a DS, get the DS version when you get tired of this one. Mario Kart DS kicks ass all day long, and into the night. And on weekends and most holidays.

Did you try the bikes yet?

I haven't :blushes: But I will later on! I was trying out the different courses to see what's new and such.

Dude, how do you get the extra boost at the very very beginning? Used to be you press down hardcore a split-second before the countdown comes to "1". It doesn't work now though. Or am I doing something wrong?

Actually found it a bit less sensitive than the other racing game I have, Excite Truck (which is really fun, too and you can use mp3s from your SD card for in game music!). But yeah, it did take getting used to. I like the game, though. I can't beat the 100cc Star Cup! :(

Pretty cool how it's only 10 bucks.

Didn't you find the wheel extremely sensitive though? Took me a while to get used to it.
